Hansen Mulford received his M.F.A. from Tyler School of Art, Temple University and B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of South Florida. He joined the staff of the Orlando Museum of Art in 1981 and is currently, Senior Curator of the Collections and Exhibitions Department. Since 1988, he has been member of the Museum’s senior management team with responsibilities to develop and implement Museum’s annual programs of exhibitions and to develop and care for the Museum’s Collections of American Art, Art of the Ancient Americas and African Art. While serving as curator, Hansen participated in the organization’s transition from a community art center to a regional collecting museum, including four building expansions. Together with the Museum’s curatorial team he has helped to grow the permanent collections with gifts and acquisitions of traditional American Art, Contemporary Art and Contemporary Fine Art Prints.

Hansen directed the implementation of several of the Museum’s “blockbuster” exhibitions, including The Art of the Motorcycle, 2006; Chihuly Across Florida: Masterworks in Glass, 2004; and Imperial Tombs of China, 1997. Hansen has organized or directed the implementation of over 150 changing exhibitions at the Museum. These have included: Maya Lin: A History of Water, State of Excellence: Treasures from Florida Private Collections, Will Cotton, Chie Fueki and the annual, Florida Prize in Contemporary Art, an initiative that brings new recognition to the State’s progressive contemporary artists. The Florida Prize is now in its seventh year.

Additionally, Hansen was a practicing artist from 1978 to 2000 and has been awarded the Florida Individual Artist Fellowship in 1985 and 1991. His work has been featured in American Artist Magazine, and included in books The Artist and the American Landscape and Florida’s First River: A Visual History of the St. Johns.
