Party for One and Compulsory are simultaneous solo exhibitions showcasing the thesis work of the Spring 2020 Master of Fine Arts candidates in the UCF School of Visual Arts and Design.
Party For One showcases contemporary bookbinder Jacob Zhefu Wan. Creating mixed media conceptual books of his personal experience as an Asian man, he explores the importance of self through desire, consciousness, and loneliness. Books are a collection of moments, humanity is a collection of memories, life is a book.
Compulsory by Jason Fronczek combines photography, mixed media, and installation to explore the dualities inherent in the relationships between art, memory, and culture; specifically as they relate to (in)visibility and the stigma surrounding mass incarceration and mental illness. In the age of constant surveillance, the camera’s eye is ubiquitous, yet so much of society is left invisible. Fronczek’s art asks viewers to slow down and take notice of the often unseen, overlooked, and discarded.
