VR Middle Passage Experience at the Hannibal Square Heritage Center

Sunday, February 16, 2020 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

VR Middle Passage Experience is an interactive virtual reality experience where participants are asked to embody an African captive on their trip from Africa to the Americas. This experience is based on historical research from visual and archival materials, the slavevoyages.org database, and numerous primary accounts.

Designers and developers of the VR Middle Passage Experience will demonstrate it at the Hannibal Square Heritage Center in Winter Park, FL as part of 1619Fest! Orlando

This project is a collaboration between faculty and students in the departments of History, Africana Studies, Games and Interactive Media, and the Center for Humanities and Digital Research at UCF.

1619Fest! Orlando at the Historic Hannibal Square will open with an exclusive screening of Death to the N-Word, a documentary by Sadiq Al-Aleem. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion including Dr. Fon Gordon, UCF Associate Professor of History and Coordinator of Africana Studies.
