For Freedoms Town Hall: Rebranding Patriotism, A UCF/Rollins College Event

Tuesday, March 3, 2020 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Dr. Yovanna Pineda, UCF Associate Professor of History will participate in a town hall panel discussion centered on action, freedom and patriotism. This event is in conjunction with the exhibition 2020: Action, Freedom, Patriotism at The Cornell Fine Arts Museum.

The museum is partnering with For Freedoms, a national platform for civic engagement in which art is a vehicle for reflection and action. The exhibition explores the notions of patriotism and civic engagement in our contemporary society. Against the backdrop of an election year, the urgency of democratic participation is of particular importance. By juxtaposing works of art created between 1943 and 2018, this installation places current issues within their historical context. Reinterpretations of Norman Rockwell’s Four Freedoms posters by Hank Willis Thomas and Emily Shur are shown alongside the original images from 1943, inviting reflection on diversity and inclusivity.
