Spring 2020 CPNM Eminent Scholar Lecture Series

EVENTBRITE REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Dr. Steven Cohen's discussion, Sustainability Policy: The Role of Government in Accelerating the Transition to an Environmentally Sustainable Economy", will consider a title Dr. Cohen co-authored Sustainability Policy: Hastening the Transition to a Cleaner Economy."

Market forces alone will not transition the global economy toward environmental sustainability. Government must play a role in providing the incentives, disincentives, knowledge and infrastructure required for this transition. There is no silver bullet or single policy approach that will achieve sustainability. One size will not fit all due to differences in geography, economic life and culture.

Dr. Cohen, who will be the keynote speaker for the 2020 Public Administration Research Conference, is the Senior Vice Dean of Columbia’s School of Professional Studies and a Professor in the Practice of Public Affairs at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. He has written numerous articles on public management, sustainability management, and environmental policy. Dr. Cohen also writes a weekly blog for the Earth Institute’s State of the Planet website.
