In classic Rossini style, this high energy and melodic opera turns the familiar “rescue story” on its head, with our confident and strong-willed heroine setting the men straight. Full of adventure, fun, love, trickery and beautiful music, this opera was written when the composer was just 21 years of age—around the same age as many of our UCF performers!
Mustafà, the Bey of Algiers, has grown tired of his wife Elvira and wants to marry her off to his Italian slave, Lindoro. Lindoro, however, thinks only of his fiancée back home, Isabella. As fortune would have it, Isabella, searching the seas for her Lindoro, becomes shipwrecked in Algiers. Lindoro, Isabella, and Taddeo (her comical would-be lover whom she passes off as her uncle) must find a way to return to Italy. Come and see if they can get away! UCF Opera students are joined on stage by Orlando Opera’s Gabriel Preisser as the Mustafà in this production of Rossini’s masterpiece.
