Dr. Brett Long is excited to join East Tennessee State University as Assistant Professor of Trumpet. He maintains an active performance and recital schedule, and has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Brett joins ETSU by way of Rochester, New York, where he spent twelve years in a variety of teaching and playing capacities.

Dr. Long has performed with the Rochester Philharmonic and Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, and with members of the Syracuse Symphony, Skaneateles Chamber Orchestra (NY), Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes (NY), and Williamsport Symphony (PA). As a member of the Eastman Wind Ensemble, Dr. Long played at venues such as the Midwest Band Conference, and can be heard on "Manhattan Music" with the famed Canadian Brass. He has also performed with the Rochester Lyric Opera, Geneva Light Opera, Utah Festival Opera, New York State Ballet, and Skaneateles Chamber Orchestra. Brett has played in masterclasses with world renowned artists, such as Philip Smith, Vincent DiMartino, Mark Gould, Bob Earley, Niklaus Eklund, Mark Niehaus, and Allen Vizzutti.

Brett is an active recitalist, and has offered performances at numerous universities and concert series, often featuring contemporary compositions and commissioned works. He is also a founding member of the Emerald Brass, a dynamic quintet that has performed throughout the United States and Europe, including feature performances at the Coleman Chamber Music Competition and Frankenwald Brass Festival. They have premiered multiple compositions, and offered clinics and concerts from New York to California.

Dr. Long is an experienced and dedicated educator. For ten years, he taught instrumental music for Greece Central Schools, ranging from elementary concert and jazz bands to high school trumpet ensembles. While in Rochester, Dr. Long also served as the Trumpet Instructor at Nazareth College, where he offered trumpet lessons, various courses, and performed with the Wilmot Brass. Previous positions include Winds Instructor at Finger Lakes Community College (NY) and Visiting Professor at Mansfield University (PA). He has offered presentations and performances at Utah State University, Colorado State University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Elmira College, and the Eastman School of Music. Brett has also attended International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) and International Trumpet Guild (ITG) conferences, and has contributed multiple articles and reviews to the quarterly ITG Journal.

Brett earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Eastman School of Music, with a minor in Academic Leadership through the Warner School of Education. He also earned a Master of Music and the prestigious Performer's Certificate from Eastman, where he studied with James Thompson and Douglas Prosser. He received a Bachelor of Music Education from Mansfield University under the private instruction of Dr. Michael Galloway, and is fortunate for additional studies with Judith Saxton, Bob Earley, and chamber music with Mark Kellogg.
