Part of Veterans Month at UCF, this virtual mini conference explores the lives of African American veterans, their trials and triumphs, when they returned from war. This event is free and open to the public.

Speakers:
Dr. Holly Pinheiro, Augusta University will present "The Families' Cause: The Struggles of USCT Kin.” Dr. Pinheiro will discuss the complexity of life for northern freeborn African American families directly connected to United states Colored Troops from 1850 to 1920. The purpose is to highlight the successes and hardships of thousands of African Americans who experiences dramatically differed from their enslaved brethren.
Dr. Le Trice Donaldson, University of Wisconsin-Stout will present “Vanguards of a Movement.”Her talk frames the Black Veteran of WWI key to the new radicalism emerging in the early 1920s in the Garveyite and “New Negro” movements. Black Veterans become leaders and key figures in the development of the ideology of armed Black self-defense.
Dr. Douglas Bristol, University of Southern Mississippi will present "Changed Men: Black Veterans and Post War Opportunity." More information on Dr. Bristol's talk is forthcoming.
