November is Native American Heritage Month in honor and recognition of Native Americans as the first people of this nation and in celebration of both their cultural heritage and integral role in the United States' past, present and future.
Designated as the Friday after Thanksgiving, Native American Heritage Day was established in 2009 to encourage greater appreciation of the rich culture, tradition and history of Native Americans and their status today, and to appreciate the contributions that First Americans have made and will continue to make to this nation.
