A Conversation with Tayari Jones

Tuesday, February 23, 2021 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Award-winning author Tayari Jones talks about her career journey, writing process and themes of her novels in the culminating event of the 2021 NEA Big Read: Central Florida. Her novel Silver Sparrow has been the subject of book clubs, an exhibition at the UCF Gallery, artist talks and more for the past month, as UCF and the Central Florida community celebrate literature and the joy of reading a great book.

Tayari Jones is a New York Times best-selling author of four novels. Her most recent novel, An American Marriage, published in 2018, is an Oprah’s Book Club Selection and also appeared on Barack Obama’s summer reading list as well as his year-end roundup. The novel was awarded the Women’s Prize for Fiction (formerly known as the Orange Prize), Aspen Words Prize and an NAACP Image Award.

Moderated by UCF English lecturer Jason Gregory ’19MFA, the event will conclude with an audience Q&A.

This event is a collaboration between the NEA Big Read: Central Florida, the Florida Prison Education Project, UCF Alumni and the UCF College of Arts and Humanities.
