The Physical Sciences Summer Institute for Summer 2021 will be held virtually.
Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields are some of the fastest growing and most lucrative. A solid foundation in middle and high school is critical for students to have the option of pursuing those careers. It’s also important to be able to communicate that knowledge effectively, in a variety of formats, and to different audiences. Focusing on the theme “Finding Patterns in Big Data,” this Summer Institute will guide students as they investigate authentic scientific data ranging from astrophysics to ecology. Scientific disciplines (physical, earth, and life), engineering, computer science, mathematics and tech skills (coding and web design) come together as useful tools to investigate these topics. Students will also learn about college and career options and how they can help make STEM fields more welcoming and inclusive.
The program will run from Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will be held online via video conference. Successful students will be those who are eager to learn new things, work hard during the week, and be a supportive group member. The are no academic prerequisites, but a teacher recommendation is required.
