Abstract: This talk will review nLights high power fiber and laser diode development programs including advanced lasers for mitigation of Transverse Modal Instability in large mode area (LMA) and chirally-coupled core (3C) fibers and multi-kW laser diode systems.
About the speaker: Manoj Kanskar has over 25 years of experience in the fields of high power diode lasers, solid-state lasers, fiber laser and components as well as opto-electronic components and quantum optics. Before joining nLIGHT, he was with Alfalight for ten years as Vice President of R&D where he was responsible for demonstrating record high electrical-to-optical power conversion efficiency in diode lasers on GaAs and InP under DARPA-funded SHEDS Program. He has designed and developed high power, high efficiency and high reliability single-mode, multimode single-emitters/bars/stacks, surface-emitting DFB, edge-emitting DFB, VCSEL/VECSEL and flared amplifier semiconductor lasers and photonic bandgap/opto-electronic components. He also directs research in high average power and high peak power fiber lasers/amplifiers/components for DoD & DoE applications. Recently, he is working on mitigation of Transverse Modal Instability in large mode area (LMA) and chirally-coupled core (3C) fibers. He is a reviewer for Electronics Letters, Photonics Technology Letters, Journal of Special Topics in Quantum Electronics and Optics Letters.
