Writers in the Sun Presents: Laurie Uttich and Rochelle Hurt Reading

Writers in the Sun is excited to host a celebration of new books by UCF Creative Writing faculty Laurie Uttich and Rochelle Hurt. 

Laurie and Rochelle will read from and discuss their work. Books will be available for purchase and signing. This event is free and open to the public.

Laurie Rachkus Uttich is the author of the poetry collection, Somewhere, a Woman Lowers the Hem of Her Skirt. Her prose and poetry have been published in BrevityCreative NonfictionFourth GenreThe Missouri ReviewPoets and WritersRattleRiver TeethSplit Lip MagazineThe SunSweet: A Literary Confection; and others. She teaches at UCF and leads creative writing workshops at a maximum-security correctional center for men in Orlando.

 Rochelle Hurt is a poet and essayist. She is the author of three poetry collections: The J Girls: A Reality Show (Indiana University Press, 2022), which won the Blue Light Books Prize from Indiana Review; In Which I Play the Runaway (Barrow Street, 2016), which won the Barrow Street Poetry Prize; and The Rusted City: A Novel in Poems (White Pine, 2014). Her work has been included in Poetry magazine and the Best New Poets anthology. She's been awarded prizes and fellowships from Arts & Letters, Poetry International, Vermont Studio Center, Jentel, and Yaddo. Originally from the Ohio Rust Belt, Hurt now lives in Orlando and teaches in the MFA program at the University of Central Florida.
