A Bengali Culinary Journey: A Discussion on "Calcutta on Your Plate"

The India Center at UCF presents “A Bengali Culinary Journey: A Discussion on Calcutta on Your Plate”. During the webinar, Orlando Weekly food critic Faiyaz Kara will lead a discussion with Nilosree Biswas, author of Calcutta on Your Plate. They will dive into the history of Bengali food in Calcutta. Biswas will explain the relationship between Bengali food through the history of its people and places. An audience Q&A to follow the discussion. 

 

Nilosree Biswas is an author and filmmaker trained in comparative literature and later in cinema. She writes about history, culture, art history, food and cinema of South Asia. Her most recent book Calcutta on Your Plate talks of the foodscape as an incredible journey of tastes, innovations, acceptance, indulgences and celebrations. Her earlier books include Banaras: Of Gods, Humans and Stories and Alluring Kashmir: The Inner Spirit (co-written with Irfan Nabi).

 

Faiyaz Kara is a writer, editor and journalist. He has worked for major publishing houses Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Our Sunday Visitor and has been the restaurant critic for the Orlando Weekly since 2006. His book, Gourmet Breakfasts for the Genius was published in 2017.
