Dorothy Parvaz is a New York-based senior producer at Al Jazeera, where she reports on rights stories in the US and overseas. She also commissions and edits pieces for the human rights section, which she created at AJAM in 2014. Parvaz was previously the special projects editor at Al Jazeera International, where she crafted spotlight coverage on key stories and reported on democracy and rights issues in several countries, including Egypt, Libya and Afghanistan. In the course of reporting on the uprisings in the Middle East, she disappeared in Syria and was among the first to report on the secret prisons and torture centers there. She was transferred to Iran's Evin prison where she spent over two weeks being interrogated before being released.
