Announcing the Final Examination of Ashlynn Ramirez for the degree of Doctor of Education

This study aimed to examine the impact of the Coronavirus Disease [COVID-19] on minoritized elementary students in Title I schools in one urban school district. This study followed an exploratory qualitative study research design. Through interviewing six school principals and asking a series of questions which focused on their perception of the impact of COVID, common themes were identified. The twelve questions asked were aligned with the focus of the three research questions which examined the overall perception of the impact of COVID-19 as it relates to student behaviors as well as the support and resources provided to schools to address the impact of COVID-19 on minoritized students. The conclusion and recommendations of this study have the potential to provide districts with an understanding of the impact of COVID-19 on minoritized students so that culturally responsive support systems for minoritized students consistent with intervention strategies and resources can be provided. The outcome also has the potential to impact policy, specifically for how funding is allocated to provide resources to support minoritized students.
