Simulation Technology in Teacher Preparation Programs: Expanding English Learner Teaching Skills through Digital Badges with Dr. Florin Mihai of the Department of Modern Languages
This presentation will focus on an English-learner (EL) training model that led to earning a digital badge in a federally funded program called Micro-credentialing of English Learner Teaching Skills (MELTS). To earn a digital badge, participants were required to complete an online module, participate in coached skill practice, and demonstrate mastery of a targeted EL-teaching skill. The coaching and skill mastery demonstration were completed through TLE TeachLivE™, which provided a virtual classroom with virtual avatars representing ELs at different levels of language proficiency. Qualitative and quantitative data collected throughout the MELTS program will also be presented and discussed.
CHDR Presents is an ongoing talk series hosted by the Center for Humanities and Digital Research where scholars share innovative, award-winning, creative research to both showcase their work and foster collaboration. Free and open to the public.
