Il Moro-The Moor: Short film screening with Q&A with director Daphne Di Cinto

Tuesday, November 14, 2023 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Neil Euliano Chair in Italian Studies is proud to present the screening of the award-winning short film Il Moro-The Moor by Daphne Di Cinto as part of UCF’s 2023 International Education Week.

This captivating short film, presented in Italian with English subtitles, is a period drama based on the life of Alessandro de’ Medici, the Duke of Florence, who made history in 1530 as the first black man to become a head of state in modern Western Europe. Nicknamed il Moro on account of his skin tone, the Duke governed until his tragic assassination in 1537.
Following the screening of her 22-minute film, the writer and director, Daphne Di Cinto, will engage in a Q&A session to discuss her remarkable debut and share insights into her work.

Daphne Di Cinto began her artistic journey as an actress, most notably portraying the Duchess of Hastings in the popular Netflix series Bridgerton. Her film portrays a lesser-known piece of Italian history and raises pertinent questions about identity and power that resonate with our current times.

This is a free event sponsored by the Neil Euliano Chair in Italian Studies, the Department of Modern Languages and Literature, and UCF Global.

Refreshments will be served.
