Evolutions of the Self in Islamic Thought

These two lectures explore moral psychology in Islamic thought with guest speakers Dr. Atif Khalil and Imam Tariq Rasheed. Topics include the evolution of subjectivity in early Islamic piety, the nuances of moral consciousness, and the stages of self-awareness as described in Islamic intellectual history and its earliest sources. This series will explore the evolving nature of the self in Islamic ethics.

“Tapestries of the Ethical Self in Islamic Piety” by Dr. Atif Khalil. Dr. Atif Khalil is an associate professor at the University of Lethbridge (Canada) and author of Repentance and the Return to God (SUNY Press, 2018). He specializes in Islamic ethics.

“Islamic Moral Principles in Everyday Ethics” by Imam Tariq Rasheed. Imam Tariq Rasheed serves as the director of the Islamic Center of Orlando, the largest Muslim organization in Central Florida. He is the author of numerous books on Islamic ethics.
