Title: Holography in Degraded Environments
Abstract: Environment conditions such as fog, sand, haze, turbid water and turbulence degrade imaging conditions and make it difficult to visual objects in a scene. In this talk, I will describe work at the Naval Research Laboratory to utilize digital holography to operate imaging systems and reconstruct imagery in these challenging environments. Additionally, I will provide an overview of optical sciences research at NRL and a quick highlight of rewarding career as a government civilian scientist.
About the Speaker: Dr. Abbie T. Watnik is Head of the Optical Physics Branch in the Optical Sciences Division at the Naval Research Laboratory. Dr. Watnik manages personnel and programs within a diverse research portfolio of basic and applied optical physics, with topics in optical nanomaterials, laser-based imaging and sensing, quantum optics, and semiconductor optoelectronics. Dr. Watnik received the Dr. Delores M. Etter Top Scientist Young Investigator Award for scientific contributions to the Navy and is a Optica Fellow.
