Modeling & Simulation: A Practitioners Tools for Success

Tuesday, April 9, 2024 noon to 1 p.m.

Join us for the next talk in our SMST Seminar Series on April 9th at 12pm in the Partnership III building, Room 233.

Modeling & Simulation: A Practitioners Tools for Success

Speaker: Stephanie J. Lackey, Ph.D., Director, Data Science and Technology, RTX Corporation

Abstract: Simulation, modeling, and analysis profoundly impact manufacturing and production planning, execution, and deliveries across the industrial base. This presentation shares best practices and lessons learned from the factory floor. The importance of design thinking, foundations of discrete-event simulation, and ethics will be explored. The goal of the discussion is to provide practical advice for how to apply what is learned in academic settings to the real-world and to prepare for Industry 4.0.

Speaker Bio: Stephanie J. Lackey, Ph.D. is the Director of Data Science and Technology, and based in McKinney, Texas. She has over 20 years of experience in Data Science and more than 15 years of experience in Engineering Management. Stephanie joined Raytheon in 2016, and served in the roles of Mission Area Chief Engineer, Director of Process, Execution and Configuration Management, Director of Engineering Business Analytics, and Director of Engineering Analytics. Prior to Raytheon, Stephanie served as the Director of the Federal Solutions Division a Design Interactive, the Director of Applied Cognition and Training in Immersive Virtual Environments (ACTIVE) Lab at the University of Central Florida’s (UCF) Institute for Simulation and Training (IST), and the Deputy Director of Concept Development and Integration Lab at the United States Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWC TSD). She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Methodist University, and her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Industrial Engineering and Management Systems with a specialization in Simulation, Modeling, and Analysis from the University of Central Florida. She has applied simulation, modeling, and analysis to the communications domain, human performance in high consequence environments, healthcare settings, and manufacturing plants.

The Inspiring the Future: SMST Seminar Series is a series of regular 1-hour talks given throughout each semester, where preeminent researchers share their work with a highly interdisciplinary audience that includes students, faculty, military personnel, and industry leaders. The seminar series focuses on innovative modeling, simulation, and human-subjects research techniques.
