Previously, she served as founder and president of Geotechnical and Environmental Consultants Inc. While GEC President, Joanie served as Chairman of World Cup Orlando 1994. The five Citrus Bowl soccer matches produced the largest international television audience in Orlando’s history. Among her many awards, Joanie received Orlando Business Journal Business Woman of the Year, Central Florida Junior Achievement "Spirit of Achievement Award", and Walt Disney Company's Dreamers and Doers, Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce John Young Award, and Downtown Orlando Partnership’s Downtowner of the Year.
