James Weldon Johnson Lecture Series - Trayvon Martin: The Issue of Race and the Death of the Civil Rights Movement

Dr. Vibert White from the History Department will lecture. The Trayvon Martin Rallies were patented as the core for a new civil rights movement in the United States. Activist from Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to members of the New Black Panther Party moblelized to challenge Sanford's Police Department blatant violation of Martin's civil rights. However, unknown to the general Black community the movement was manipulated and directed by various local, state and federal agencies that negated the spirit and intent of a grassroots civil rights protest.
