Please join us on Friday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the UCF Art Gallery for an evening celebration of the 115th birthday of John Steinbeck. This event will feature remarks from noted scholar and Big Read keynote speaker, Dr. Susan Shillinglaw.
Dr. Shillinglaw is a professor of English at San José State University and Director of the National Steinbeck Center in Salinas. A noted scholar, she has published several articles on the author and edited Steinbeck's journalism and collections of essays.
In conjunction with this reception, this will be the last day to view the exhibition, In the Eyes of the Hungry: Florida's Changing Landscape, before it travels to the Terrace Gallery at Orlando City Hall.

This event and exhibition is part of the Big Read, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and to encourage citizens to read for pleasure and enlightenment. For the Big Read, the University of Central Florida and Seminole County Public Library will host a series of events around Steinbeck's novel, The Grapes of Wrath, that will take place through April 14, 2017.
