Title: Asymptotic properties of the Riesz energy of sections of greedy sequences on the unit circle
Abstract: In this talk I will consider greedy energy sequences on the unit circle, obtained by a recursive algorithm that minimizes at each step the Riesz potential generated by previously selected points in the sequence. In a recent work with E. Miña-Díaz, we were able to find a finite-term expansion of the optimal values of the potential, in terms of certain arithmetic functions with a doubling periodicity property. In this talk I will present similar formulas for the asymptotics of the Riesz energy of sections of the greedy sequence. The formulas are obtained as aconsequence of the expansion of the Riesz energy of the Nth roots of unity, due to Brauchart, Hardin, and Saff.
