We're continuing VUCF Arts and Recreation Week with our large-scale event, “The Harlem Renaissance: UCF Showcase”! The Harlem Renaissance was the name given to the cultural, social, and artistic explosion that took place in Harlem between the end of World War I and the middle of the 1930s. During this period, Harlem was a cultural center, drawing black writers, artists, musicians, photographers, poets, and scholars. Among those artists whose works achieved recognition were Langston Hughes and Claude McKay, Countee Cullen and Arna Bontemps, Zora Neale Hurston and Jean Toomer, Walter White, and James Weldon Johnson.
Come witness this astonishing event as we honor the Harlem Renaissance movement by showcasing talented artists from UCF! Project S.P.I.T. among other talented students and faculty will be highlighting their pieces during this event. If you would like to learn more about the movement and witness artwork from up-and-coming UCF students and faculty, then we welcome you to attend! This event will be taking place in the Garden Room from 6-8PM. During the end of this art showcase, students will have a better understanding of the impact the Harlem Renaissance had to American culture. Students will also be able to recite the prominent figures during the movement.
