Join us for this interactive lecture, presented by Dr. Christina Torres, Assistant Professor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) in the Modern Languages and Literatures Department at UCF. Expanding the traditional definition of literacy, multiliteracies (New London Group, 1996) recognized that textual interpretation occurs within the intersection of student lifeworlds and multiple modes of expression. Decades later, multiliteracies continues to be relevant as a pedagogy and lens to empower students as critical thinkers and effective communicators (Cope & Kalantzis, 2023). In this session, learn how a multiliteracies perspective can be fruitful for inclusive collaboration, and brainstorm how to apply this lens towards your own projects related to community and culture in education.
This event is open to all members of the UCF community and is featured as part of Leadership Week 2026.
Since 2000, Leadership Week has been an annual initiative and one of UCF’s signature traditions. Coordinated by the Leadership Week Executive Board and LEAD Scholars Academy, the program is designed to encourage, inspire, and prepare students for every stage of their leadership journey.
