Sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts Big Read and inspired by John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath, In the Eyes of the Hungry: Florida’s Changing Landscape inspires and contributes to conversations about demographic, geographic, and ecological shifts, with an emphasis on human relationships with the environment. The selected artists, which include School of Visual Arts & Design faculty and students, provide immediate yet transcendental responses to Florida’s landscape and explore ideas ranging from agriculture and industrialization to migration and tourism to ecology and conservation. Whether responses to urban development, environmental degradation or migrant labor, the collected works present viewers with dynamic and haunting images of Florida’s unique and changing landscape.
