Under the direction of Jeff Rupert, the Flying Horse Big Band is UCF's premier jazz ensemble. Comprised of students in UCF's jazz studies program, this chart-topping group has performed globally, with two of their albums reaching the #1 spot on the national (professional) jazz charts. In 2026, the Flying Horse Big band was one of 10 university jazz bands in the country invited by Wynton Marsalis to participate in the National Collegiate Jazz Competition, held at the prestigious Lincoln Center.
