How Words Shape People and Connect Worlds: A Journey through Language, Culture, and Research

This presentation explores how language can shape cultural understanding, identity, and connections between people and communities. Drawing on Dr. Alla Kourova's research, teaching, creative activities, and recent publications, How Words Shape People: Understanding Business Russian through Proverbs and Connecting Worlds: A Comprehensive Guide for New Immigrant Families, the presentation traces a scholarly journey from examining the cultural meanings embedded in language to exploring the experiences of people navigating new languages and cultures. It also highlights how research can move beyond traditional publication through cross-cultural collaboration, student engagement, multimedia resources, and digital scholarship. Together, these projects demonstrate how words shape people, people connect worlds, and scholarship creates bridges across cultures.
