The recent spectacular solar eclipse on August 21st was widely observed across the US by not only the general public, but by scientists. In this seminar we will discuss some of the scientific questions that could benefit from the widespread observation of the phenomenon. We will also review some of the historical scientific significance of eclipses in improving our understanding of the universe.
Yan Fernandez, Ph.D. received his doctoral degree.in astronomy from University of Maryland, College Park, in 1999. He spent 3-years (1999-2002) as a Scientific Researcher and 3-years (2002-2005) as a SIRTF/Spitzer Fellow at the University of Hawaii before joining UCF in 2005, where he is an associate professor of physics.
