Khalil Osiris Presents "Change Your Mindset"

Wednesday, October 18, 2017 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Africana Studies presents the James Weldon Johnson Lecture Series

In this insightful and inspiring talk, Khalil Osiris uses his story of 20 years in prison as a launching point to explore ways in which most of us keep ourselves in prisons of our own making without ever actually being incarcerated. You will learn how self-imposed limitations function as a form of internal imprisonment. With passion and clarity, Khalil explains why overcoming such limitations is key to creating the life we want and deserve.

Khalil Osiris is an international expert on restorative justice and transformational leadership. An author, educator, social activist and entrepreneur, he spent 20 years of his life in prison. Khalil earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boston University while incarcerated. He transformed his life and emerged from
prison with a deep understanding of how to use personal crisis and challenges as opportunities for self-improvement.

Khalil is host and life coach of the South African SABC TV Show, Each One Teach One. This popular show was winner of a 2016 SAFTA (South African Film and Television Awards) for Best Reality Educational Program. He helps young people and parents develop positive ways to cope with daily challenges at school, home and in their communities. Khalil is the first American to win a SAFTA.

As a Patron of the Arts and Director of Bronze Kingdom, an African art gallery-museum in Orlando, Florida, Khalil is deeply passionate about supporting artists and using the arts to celebrate diversity and inclusion. He regularly conducts workshops focused on personal transformation and overcoming self-imposed limitations.
