Records Management Program in Florida

Wednesday, October 30, 2013 9 a.m. to Thursday, October 31 at 4 p.m.
The Institute of Government at UCF invites faculty and staff to a 2-day, comprehensive Records Management Program designed to inform and update public sector personnel about records management and maintenance under Florida law. The four modules will address new technologies and management systems in the field of records management.

Module I focuses on the basics of records management and maintenance, including public records law in Florida, privacy vs. right-to-know and statutory access, and records retention and destruction.

Module II addresses file management and design, equipment and supplies, and information storage and retrieval system options.

Module III covers imaging, with particular focus on legalities and standards related to microfilm and digital imaging, computer retrieval systems, and cost analyses.

Module IV discusses disaster preparedness/recovery systems and contemporary records management issues, including off-site storage and vital records. A certificate will be awarded to those attending all four modules.

Facilitated by someone with over 35 years of experience managing records in Florida, this workshop is vital to anyone who is responsible for records in local governments, state agencies, school boards, community colleges and universities.

Please note: This program covers public records law for the State of Florida. Details about records within a specific agency, division, or unit within the State should be clarified with your entity's Records Management Liaison Officer.
