Eminent Scholars Lecture Series

Thursday, April 12, 2018 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Camilla Stivers is a distinguished professor emerita at the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs,
Cleveland State University. This talk will address how the linear rationality reflected in the pyramidal image of
the bureaucracy needs to be tempered by consciously bringing to bear circular processes reflected in
conversation, dialogue, the exercise of judgment, collaboration, and so on. Her message is that there is
more than one kind of "control," and we need to pay attention to circular interactions, which Stivers calls
"facework."

This event is open to all faculty, staff and students. Please RSVP here: http://bit.ly/2E4C2N5
