One Fish, Two Fish: Weird and Wonderful Adaptations
Abstract: There are over 20,000 species of fishes living in the world’s oceans. One of the primary evolutionary questions of our time is how such incredible diversity can arise? It was long thought that the oceans were a vast homogeneous habitat mostly devoid of life, however, technological advancements over the past 100 years have allowed us to explore even the deepest depths and we have come to understand the complex nature of this three-dimensional environment and the often-bizarre species that live there.
This talk will explore the nature of ocean habitats, the diversity of fishes and the special adaptations that are required to make a living in these often-extreme environments.
