Please join us for a talk by UCF alumnus, Seth Jonas, presenting “From science to global hazard: addressing space weather and other technological hazards”.
Dr. Seth Jonas is a researcher at the Institute for Defense Analysis’ Science and Technology Policy Institute (STPI). STPI is a congressionally chartered, federally funded research and development center that supports the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and other executive agencies. Dr. Jonas has experience in policy analysis and program evaluation. Select areas of study include space weather, hazard preparedness, infrastructure security and resilience, national security, and emergency preparedness communications. He was a 2017 US-UK Fulbright Scholar serving as a visiting researcher at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and the Acting Deputy Head of Resilience at the UK Government Office for Science.
Dr. Jonas has held fellowships at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and with the JASON scientific advisory group for US national security. He has served on the Board of Trustees for the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation and the selection committee for the AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowship. Dr. Jonas holds an MA and a PhD in physics from the Johns Hopkins University, and two BS degrees from the University of Central Florida in physics and liberal science studies (math and chemistry).
