Creating Clear Expectations for Graduate Mentees

Presentation Overview:

In this seminar we will discuss effective strategies for getting relationships with graduate research advisees off to a productive start. We will discuss, as a group, some scenarios related to mentoring challenges and how we might handle them. We will also explore the option of creating written agreements that address the respective responsibilities of the mentor and the mentee as one way to promote a positive and successful relationship and project.

Speaker Biography:

Melody Bowdon, PhD is Professor of Writing and Rhetoric and Executive Director of UCF’s Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning. She has previously served as director of the Texts and Technologies PhD program, the MA in Rhetoric and Composition, and the Graduate Certificate in Professional Communication. She has published widely on a variety of topics in her field of technical communication and in the areas of faculty development and higher education pedagogies. Her most recent project is Best Practices in Flipping the College Classroom, which was published by Routledge in 2015.
