GEMS Talk - Biomedical Sciences

GEMS will be joined by Dr. Amparo Gutierrez, a neurologist with the Orlando Health Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Care Center. She will be discussing her journey to medical school, career, and experience in STEM, as well as answering any questions you have about the field!

"Amy Gutierrez, MD, FAANS, is a neurologist with the Orlando Health Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Care Center. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and the American Board of Neuromuscular Medicine. She is also a fellow of the of the American Academy of Neurology.

Dr. Gutierrez earned her medical degree from East Central University in the Dominican Republic. She completed an adult psychiatry residency at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, New York and an adult neurology residency at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine, New Orleans, serving as chief resident for both. She went on to fulfill a child psychiatry fellowship at St. Luke’s – Roosevelt Hospital, New York where she served as chief fellow, and a clinical neurophysiology fellowship at the LSU School of Medicine.

Dr. Gutierrez has been the principal investigator in many research trials related to MS. She previously served as medical director of the LSU Muscular Dystrophy Association and the LSU Multiple Sclerosis Clinic for 12 years, and has served on the local and regional councils of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She is fluent in both English and Spanish."
