Free Career Workshop

Wednesday, October 14, 2020 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Veteran Academic Resource Center (VARC) has teamed up with national recognized non-profit Andrew Vernon Associates to offer a FREE 90 minute interactive presentation on career readiness to provide focused refresher training for student veterans.

Student Veterans will learn the necessary skills to successfully transition from being a college student to earning a job in a career commensurate with their degree and experience.

Ideally, students will participate in this training at least one semester
prior to graduation.

Presentation covers the following areas:

I. Principles of Getting a Job
• Create a schedule
• Paths to employment
• Identifying transferable skills
• Professional introduction
• Networking & mentorships


II. Career Research and Development
• Available resources
• Conduct fact-finding calls
• Salary determination
• American job centers
• Credentialing
• Personal branding
• Social media
III. Job Application Process
• Cover letters
• Resumes
• Virtual job fairs
• Interviews
• Negotiating & compensation package
• Follow-up
• Federal job and veteran’s preference
