Public Records Training - PER237 (Faculty & Staff Only)

Wednesday, December 8, 2021 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Florida's public records law, Chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes, defines public records as: "All documents, papers, letters, maps, books, tapes, photographs, films, sound recordings, data processing software of other material, regardless of physical form, or characteristics, or means of transmission, made or received pursuant to law or ordinance or in connection with the transaction of official business by any agency." State and federal laws exempt certain types of public records, or portions thereof, from disclosure under the public records law. Before documents are released pursuant to a public records request, any exempt documents or exempt information contained within the documents will be removed.

Sounds clear but is it always? What about electronic chats or recordings? What if I send a message from my mobile device? What if I make calls through Teams, and someone is requesting a call log? Do call logs count?

Don't let public records be stressful! Join us for this interactive training that will help you when you receive a request or create records. Please bring your questions, so we can make you more comfortable with public records.
