Teen Autism Group is designed for adolescents with autism spectrum disorders, (ASD) to practice social skills, work on self-advocacy skills in a fun and relaxing atmosphere with activities that build on one another. This program meets every other week for a total of 8 sessions over the spring and fall semesters. Entries to this group are available as openings occur each semester. It has a closed number of participants and is limited by age and diagnosis. Attendance is mandatory for the duration of the semester.
This is an excellent opportunity for teens with ASD to make lasting friendships and be provided with social skill feedback by facilitators. Participants should be between the ages of 13-17, have Asperger’s/PDD-NOS, or High Functioning Autism, be interested in attending the group, be independent in their toileting, not require 1 to 1 support, and be able to effectively communicate in a group setting.
Individuals must be registered with UCF CARD and may require an interview to be admitted. Group meets every other week for 90 minutes spring and fall. Currently offered in Volusia, Seminole, Brevard, Lake, Osceola, Orange and UCF IC and online.
