Program Abstract: Path-goal leadership theory is a commonly utilized and researched leadership approach in professional business settings. However, in academic advising services across academia, path-goal leadership can be applied to strengthen the relationship between advisors and students. In this session, attendees will participate in a short questionnaire to determine their dominant path-goal leadership style, either Directive, Supportive, Participative, or Achievement-Oriented. Additionally, attendees will gain a thorough understanding of specific advising situations where each, specific leadership style may be most effectively utilized. As a result of attending this session, advising professionals will also develop strategies for implementing and switching between each of the four styles in their daily practice in order to support students' needs and learning styles.
