This presentation will explore the possibilities for linking multimodal texts, from media messages to film to comics and beyond, in order to build engagement, motivation, and critical thinking when working with middle grades and young adult readers. Students live in an increasingly networked world brimming with a wide range of texts -- from this observation, Dr. DeHart examines both the literacy foundations and potential applications of using a multitude of materials to support students' deeper learning in the secondary classroom.
