School of Social Work Conference: Responding to the Needs of African American and Black Families

Friday, March 2, 2012 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The UCF School of Social Work is holding its annual conference entitled, "Responding to the Needs of African American and Black Families", on Friday, March 2nd from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The conference is open to service providers and students, and 6 Continuing Education units (CEU's) will be offered.
 
The primary focus of the conference is to help professionals recognize, address and respond to the needs of African American and Black families. Guest speakers will assist professionals to better address these needs followed by a panel discussion highlighting first hand experiences and strategies for improvement. Topic areas will include: empowerment and developing professional autonomy, criminal justice and the legal system, as well as responding to educational, family, cultural and spiritual needs. The keynote speaker, Tee Persad, will present "Overcoming Hidden Obstacles to Break into a Profession and Be Recognized for Excellence".
