CECS Special Seminar -- Theoretical and Experimental Analysis of the World's Longest Suspended Footbridge

Tuesday, May 16, 2023 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Join the College of Engineering and Computer Science for a special seminar featuring Professor Antonio Tadeu of the Department of Civil Engineering at Coimbra University in Portugal. He will discuss the "Theoretical and Experimental Analysis of the World's Longest Suspended Footbridge in 2020."

Footbridges are being designed with increasingly innovative features. One structural type that attracts the eye is the suspension footbridge, mainly due to its length, height, and location. The 516 Arouca footbridge in Portugal is in the Arouca Geopark, and in 2020, it was the longest suspension footbridge in the world with a span of 516 meters. This work sets out the design approach to study the quasi-static and dynamic behavior of the 516 Arouca bridge through theoretical, analytical and numerical models. The assumptions made in these analyses are experimentally validated. The analytical and numerical solutions were in good agreement with the experimental results.

All UCF faculty and graduate students are welcome to attend.
