PRINT: The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far from the Tree

Thursday, April 4, 2024 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This event is part of UCF Celebrates the Arts 2024.

The PRINT team invites you to join them for an interactive workshop that offers an introduction to reading and transcribing letters from the past. Participants will learn tips and tricks for deciphering old handwriting and in the process learn about family dynamics in early America. Take a step into the past when you read a 1690s letter from a father to his teenage daughter, who is running the family’s household and is tasked with selling their cider.

UCF’s PRINT - People, Religion, Information Networks, and Travel - project focuses on the dynamics of migration in the early modern world. PRINT is an interdisciplinary project in which faculty and students are creating a portal to the correspondence of religious minorities. PRINT will produce visualizations to illustrate the connections that arose in response to religious persecution and missionary work.

Sponsored by the National Archives/National Historical and Publication Commission. In partnership with Historical Society of Pennsylvania, Franckesche Stiftungen, Library of the Society of Friends, Stadsarchief Amsterdam, and Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin.
