Why Disciplinary Literacy Matters for Elevating Teaching and Learning Today

Thursday, February 27, 2025 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

In this webinar, Vicky Zygouris-Coe, Ph.D., will make a case for the importance of disciplinary literacy in today’s rapidly evolving teaching and learning contexts. Disciplinary literacy opens the door to learning how to read, write, communicate, and think within specific subject areas or disciplines. It is all about integrating discipline-specific literacies and content in authentic ways to maximize student engagement and learning. Participants will explore the benefits of a disciplinary literacy framework to empower their teaching and improve student outcomes. The presenter will also share subject-specific instructional tools and resources to bridge literacy and content learning in grades K-12.

Vicky Zygouris-Coe is a Professor of Reading Education at the University of Central Florida, College of Community Innovation & Education, School of Teacher Education.
