Interactive Word Walls: Visual Scaffolds that Transform Science Vocabulary Instruction (K-12)

Julie Jackson, Ph.D., associate professor of science education at Texas State University will present the benefits of using interactive word walls to scaffold students’ science vocabulary and deeper understanding of scientific concepts. Jackson will show how to create and use interactive word walls in K-12 Science classrooms to:

  • Highlight connections between concepts and artifacts (realia) from inquiry-based science activities while connecting scientific concepts and academic vocabulary, and
  • Strategically target vocabulary and include visual aids illustrating word meanings to deepen students’ understanding.
