WAC Wednesdays: Exploring the Cognitive Impacts of AI Use on Writers

You are invited to join the UCF Writing Across the Curriculum Program for WAC Wednesdays, a virtual discussion group for faculty and staff interested in writing within and across disciplines.

Fall 2025 sessions will engage questions around artificial intelligence (AI) and writing. The sessions will take place on Zoom from 12-1 p.m. on select Wednesdays in September, October and November. To receive the Zoom link for all sessions, register here.

Our October session, "Exploring the Cognitive Impacts of AI Use on Writers" will take place Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 12-1 p.m. 

Numerous AI tools boast increased writing effectiveness. But have you wondered how AI assistance impacts writers, not just their writing? In this session, we’ll explore the emerging research on the cognitive and behavioral impacts of AI use on writers. We’ll consider the ways that AI use might impact things like memory and recall, writing confidence, sense of responsibility for one’s writing and long-term learning gains.
