Only America Left Her Negro Troops Behind
The African American Military in the First World War
presented by Dr. John Morrow, Franklin Professor of History The University of Georgia

Dr. John H. Morrow, Jr. (BA with Honors in History, Swarthmore College, 1966; PhD in Modern European
History, University of Pennsylvania 1971) is Franklin Professor of History at The University of Georgia. He will discuss the contributions of African American soldiers to the war effort during World War I and how, by the end of the war and in the post-World War I era, many Americans ignored and denigrated the black soldiers’ exploits, and even feared the implications of their achievements for a rigidly segregated American society.
